I am backing the Stop the Holiday Tax campaign and calling on the Government to abandon its plans for a new visitor levy on overnight accommodation in England. In North Yorkshire, tourism is absolutely critical to our local economy, supporting thousands of jobs and businesses across our towns, villages, countryside, and coast.
From small B&Bs and holiday parks to pubs, cafes, and visitor attractions, so many livelihoods in North Yorkshire depend on people choosing to holiday here. A new Holiday Tax would make domestic breaks more expensive for families at a time when many are already under financial pressure, risking fewer visitors, less local spending, and reduced investment in our area.
Holidays should be for relaxing, not taxing. That is why I support this campaign and urge the Government to think again before damaging tourism in places like North Yorkshire.
Input into the Government's consultation here before 18th February.
