It was fantastic to welcome local businesses, training providers and young people to my annual Apprenticeship Fair at Thirsk School on Thursday 22 October 2026.
The fair brought together organisations from across North Yorkshire, showcasing careers in everything from engineering and manufacturing to farming, technology, hospitality, property and local government.
A huge thank you to everyone who took part and helped demonstrate the fantastic opportunities available to young people in our area.
Although this year's fair has finished, there are still plenty of ways to explore apprenticeships and take the next step towards a rewarding career.

Find an apprenticeship
Whether you're leaving school, considering a career change or looking to develop new skills, an apprenticeship allows you to earn while you learn, gaining practical experience alongside recognised qualifications.
There are plenty of useful resources to help you get started:
- Find an Apprenticeship – GOV.UK – Search and apply for vacancies by location, employer or industry.
- Apprenticeships.gov.uk – Information about apprenticeship levels, pay, eligibility and how to apply.
- Yorkshire Apprenticeship Service – Explore apprenticeship vacancies across Yorkshire.
- North Yorkshire Council Apprenticeships – Information about apprenticeships and career opportunities with the Council.
- York College – Apprenticeship vacancies and training opportunities with regional employers.
- Askham Bryan College – Apprenticeships in agriculture, horticulture and other land-based industries.
Why consider an apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships aren't just for school leavers. They're available to people aged 16 and over, with opportunities ranging from entry-level training through to degree apprenticeships.
They offer the chance to earn a salary, develop practical skills and gain qualifications without paying tuition fees for your apprenticeship training.
I've long been a supporter of apprenticeships and want to make sure young people across Thirsk and Malton know about the opportunities available to them, both locally and further afield.
Having previously held two Apprenticeship Fairs in Malton, this year's event moved to Thirsk, and I hope to continue bringing these opportunities to different parts of the constituency in future.
