I was honoured to host Malton resident, Louise Kirby-Jones in Parliament today, whose personal experience of maternal loss has blossomed into a powerful support network for others. Since first meeting her at one of his constituency surgeries earlier this year, he has watched Louise’s work with The Motherless Mothers, alongside co-founder Adina Belloli, gain momentum and respect.
This week’s parliamentary event marking Mother Loss Awareness Day was a poignant reminder of the essential work they are doing — creating visibility, healing, and community for women navigating motherhood without a mother.
It’s been a real privilege to get to know Louise since she first came to one of my surgeries back in January. I’ve been pleased to offer support where I can as she’s worked tirelessly to help others through her incredible initiative. This week’s event in Parliament was deeply moving — a testament to Louise and Adina’s compassion, determination, and vision. Louise has turned her own experience of loss into something that will bring comfort and connection to so many others. I’m proud to support her and The Motherless Mothers as they continue this vital work in North Yorkshire and beyond.
The Motherless Mothers is offers a welcoming, safe space for women whose mothers are absent — due to death, estrangement, illness, or other circumstances.
It provides:
- Free drop-in sessions for women to meet and share stories
- A private, moderated forum and WhatsApp community where women can connect and discuss their journey in confidence
- One-to-one counselling (via qualified professionals) for community members in need
- Advocacy work to influence health and maternity policies, ensuring the needs of “motherless mothers” are better recognised and supported
Louise’s efforts bring a voice to a demographic often overlooked, amplifying stories of grief, resilience and growth and I'm proud this initiative has began here in Malton.
