Today I have written to Yorkshire Water to raise serious concerns about executive pay and transparency at the company.
Recent figures reveal that Chief Executive Nicola Shaw received total remuneration of £1.62 million in 2023–24, and £1.34 million in 2024–25, once additional payments from parent company Kelda Holdings are included. These sums are excessive in my view, particularly given ongoing issues with water quality, service performance, and the company’s environmental record.
I have called on Yorkshire Water to publish all payments to senior executives — including those from parent companies — in full, to review pay levels to ensure they are proportionate and performance-based, and to engage openly with stakeholders to justify their approach.
As a monopoly provider of an essential public service, Yorkshire Water must show the highest standards of openness, fairness, and accountability in how customer revenues are spent. Public trust depends on it.
