MP calls on Government to reverse Farm Tax

Farm tax

The future of farmers across Thirsk and Malton will be the focus of a major Parliamentary vote this week as the Conservatives take action to overturn Labour’s Family Farm Tax.

Despite Labour Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Environment Secretary Steve Reed previously promising to protect farmers, under the Government’s proposals, more than 100,000 farms across the country will be hit by new inheritance tax laws.

These measures will be devastating for family farms, posing a serious risk to domestic food security and driving up food prices.

If you've not already, please sign the petition at stopthefarmtax.com to rally support for British farming and oppose this new tax. Tomorrow, the Conservatives will force a vote, asking Labour MPs whether they will take a stand for British farmers or support these damaging measures.

An Opposition Day Debate will bring the Family Farm Tax into sharp focus, giving all MPs, including Labour MPs, the chance to reject the Government’s cruel plans.

As you know, I've been working hard to fight against these plans and met farmers from Thirsk and Malton last month as part of the mass rally. Despite tens of thousands descending on Westminster and hundreds of thousands signing a petition against the Family Farm Tax, Labour is intent on pushing forward with this vindictive policy. But on Wednesday, all MPs – including Labour MPs – have the chance to reject Keir Starmer’s plans and help protect hundreds of thousands of farmers, their families, and communities like ours here in Thirsk and Malton.

I know people here will be watching closely to see how Labour MPs vote, and I urge them to stand with us in opposing this tax. Our farmers are the backbone of this country, and I am confident people will never forgive Labour if they destroy the farming industry, which this tax will inevitably do.
