Plough at Fadmoor saved thanks to local efforts and Government funding

I’m thrilled the Plough has received £297,120 through the Government’s Community Ownership Fund which will return it back to the thriving and profitable business it used to be.

The Plough dates back to 1782, when it existed as a thriving village pub and restaurant. The current owners, who ran the pub under management, took the decision to close and offer the premises for sale. Back in 2011, I visited the pub to understand the distress caused to social cohesion and declare his support for the community who had suffered the loss of all other facilities over former years. The local community have fought for many years to save the pub, after losing other vital assets such as the post office and parish shop from the community, which provide valuable services to both the local residents and visitors to the village.

I have been pleased to hold a number of local meetings on this matter throughout my years as an MP (including the above picture from 2015), inviting local councillors along to attempt a dialogue on behalf of Fadmoor Community Pub Ltd as well as liaising with the North York Moors National Park and the then Ryedale District Council.

This funding is well deserved and will benefit the local community in a significant way.
