North Yorkshire named in top 5 staycation destinations this summer

It comes as no surprise to me that North Yorkshire is one of the most desired places for a staycation after it has been recognised in an annual poll. The research from Sykes Holiday Cottages’ found the county was named in the UK’s top 5 places to visit this summer, among other world-renowned locations.

There are so many fantastic places in North Yorkshire to choose from, for a family or walking holiday or a romantic weekend away. I’d certainly encourage anyone who hasn’t booked their holiday and who wants to wait for a holiday abroad to consider North Yorkshire.

The research found that 62% of British people intend to spend their main summer break in the UK this year, up from 50% in 2019. Tourism has been badly impacted by the pandemic but is particularly vital for the North Yorkshire economy. There are the picturesque towns of Thirsk, Easingwold, Malton and Helmsley, coastal breaks in Filey or a visit to the North York Moors using the historical railway departing from Pickering. Among the events coming up this summer, I highly recommend the celebrated Malton Food Festival during bank holiday weekend in August. This will be free to attend and will host this year’s MasterChef winner as a special guest.
