Green Homes Grant scheme offers business opportunities for local trades

I want to encourage tradespeople to get certified by TrustMark so they can access a range of new work installing energy efficiency measures over the coming months. Only TrustMark-registered businesses can be a Green Homes Grant installer which means they must qualify against Publicly Available Specification (PAS) standards.

The £2 billion Green Homes Grant is up and running allows homeowners and landlords to apply for vouchers to make their homes more energy efficient. The grants cover at least two thirds of the costs up to £5,000 or all of the costs up to £10,000 for low-income households. It is estimated that this scheme could result in 650,000 homes nationwide being made more energy efficient and could save households up to £300 per annum on bills.

This voucher can be used on introducing energy efficiency measures such as double-glazed windows, wall insulation, loft insulation, underfloor insulation, biomass boilers, heat pumps, draught proofing or external energy-efficient doors. All tradespeople and businesses are required to be appropriately certified to install energy efficiency and/or low carbon heating improvements. This means homeowners will know that the work will be carried out to the required high standards. Tradespeople will be added to a directory of TrustMark registered installers and homeowners can then make contact to obtain a quote. Those installing low carbon heating improvements in homes will also need to be MCS certified.

I have been contacted by a number of constituents wanting to take advantage of this fantastic scheme and I want to be sure that our qualified tradespeople don’t miss out on a huge order book of work. It’s a win-win situation. Not only is this scheme good for the environment but it will save constituents hundreds of pounds on their energy bills whilst providing work for qualified installers through to 2021.

You can register with TradeMark here https://www.trustmark.org.uk/tradespeople/join-through-trustmark

Further information and how to apply for the vouchers can be found online at: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-the-green-homes-grant-scheme
