Now an average of little more than one new Covid case per day in York & N Yorks

North Yorkshire

I am aware that the news that the City of Leicester has had to go into a local lockdown and it is reported that other Yorkshire cities may follow has worried many constituents and I would like to assure you that here in York and North Yorkshire the picture is much more encouraging. According to data from Public Health England there is now an average of little more than one case per day (from NHS tests, Pillar 1) across the 800,000 residents of York and North Yorkshire. Over the last 7 days there were 9 new Pillar 1 cases in North Yorkshire and 0 in York for the second week running.

You can find the updated figures for Pillar 1 and Pillar 2 (community tests) for Hambleton District Council, Ryedale District Council and Scarborough Borough Council at https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/

It is imperative that we keep to government guidelines as we enter a new re-opening phase on July 4th and that we show the same respect to other neighbourhoods as we would our own. If we continue to pull together I am confident that there will be no need for a local lockdown in North Yorkshire and that the numbers will continue to fall. I’m looking forward to seeing our hospitality and tourist sector start up and thrive once again in time for the rest of the summer. I’d also like to assure you that reports of a new lockdown in York are totally misleading.
