Millfields Park, Easingwold, Kevin Hollinrake MP

I planted five trees today as part of the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy, a network of forest conservation initiatives to mark Her Majesty the Queen’s lifetime of service to the Commonwealth.

The trees - two silver birch, two rowan, and a hazel are now growing in Millfields Park in Easingwold, following a planting ceremony supported by the Easingwold Green Spaces group.

It is a huge privilege to plant these trees in honour of our Queen, the longest ever serving Monarch who is so loved throughout the country and across the Commonwealth. These are five of fifty thousand trees which are being planted as part of this project which was the initiative of the Woodlands Trust, Sainsbury’s and ITV. In a much wider scheme, ministers have promised eleven million new trees across the country by 2020. I’m one hundred percent behind this. Our woodlands and forests are a national asset but they are also good for the environment, for biodiversity and for helping tackle climate change. I’m so pleased that I am able to do a little thing as part of something really big and really important.
