It’s been a challenging week for everyone this week. The record artic conditions have affected us all. It has meant that some schools have had to be shut, which means parents have had to make alternative arrangements; roads have been closed; journeys disrupted and cancelled, creating extra stress for many people needing to get to hospital, doctors’ appointments or work.

Several big events like the Ryedale Jobs Fair (on Friday) and The Great British Spring Clean (Saturday) have been postponed and will need to be re-arranged.

I’d like to thank NYCC Highways for their efforts to grit the roads to make it safer for us all along with staff at Ryedale and Hambleton Councils who have been out gritting the pathways, managing to keep most of them open.

It’s been a very difficult week and I do urge you all to check with your elderly neighbours to make sure they have everything they need. These conditions can, of course, be very isolating for many people and we need to make sure that we look after each other.
