Highways England considers modifications at Rillington

Following my meeting earlier this month at Rillington with local councillor Janet Sanderson and local residents, Highways England has promised to look into the issues we raised. It will now consider measures to allow slower vehicles to clear the junction when turning right by the Coach and Horses pub, by increasing the time allocated by the traffic lights; reinforcing and extending speed limits as traffic enters Rillington as part of a village gateway section for the A64 and following a survey it conducted last December which showed evidence of speeding through the village; and considering the use of guardrails as a means to reassure pedestrians using the pathway adjacent to recently damaged walls. I am pleased that Highways England has acted so swiftly to look at ways of improving safety in the village and hope that local residents will feel reassured that action is being taken.
