Making the case for more money to improve the A64

Andrew Jones

Today, I met with the Exchequer Secretary, Andrew Jones MP, to make the case for the additional monies we need for the A64 – that’s an extra £115m, so £250m in total, to deliver the dual carriageway from York to Barton Hill. This extra money is essential to fund the dual carriageway which is needed to alleviate traffic problems beyond the Hopgrove roundabout. Highways England has accepted that previously planned improvements to the roundabout would not solve the problem. The dual carriageway will use the full allocation of up to £250m that the Government has included in the national road strategy for an A64 Hopgrove upgrade. Highways England is currently conducting a more detailed examination into environmental issues, traffic data, side roads and cost before making a recommendation following a consultation period in 2018.

I am determined to do everything I can to make sure we get these much needed and long awaited improvements to the A64.
