Young Labour ‘s call to withdraw from NATO is total nonsense

Kevin Hollinrake MP

I was pleased to have the opportunity in the House today to invite the Secretary of State for Defence to condemn those who want us to withdraw from NATO and abandon our allies. I was referring to the highly ignorant and irresponsible motion by Labour’s youth wing at their National Youth Policy. Of course, we should not pull out of NATO which guarantees the freedom and security of its 29 members in an unstable world, through both political and military means. The idea that our membership makes us ‘’complicit in American overseas aggression”, according to the Labour youth wing, is also risible and worrying too if these are the views of the next generation of Labour politicians. I fully support the Government’s pledge to commit 2% of our national income to our Defence Budget to deliver security for Britain and our allies.
