It’s great news to hear that the volunteers of the Riverside Group for the Malton & Norton Area Partnership (MNAP) have secured over £90,000 to refurbish walks by the River Derwent in Lady Spring Wood. It just shows what communities and volunteers can do when they put their minds to it. I have been shown the plans for the improvements which will start in the autumn which will include enhancing, repairing and refreshing pathways in Lady Spring Wood with a new boardwalk in the springs area and a natural earth path by the river as well as replacing a bridge across The Cut on the Gannock Field. They also plan to clear invasive species such as Himalayan Balsam and Giant Hogweed. All this will mean that this beautiful walk will be enjoyed by so many local people and visitors to the area. I’d like to congratulate Fiona Croft, Sarah Oswald and Rodney Brewis, in particular, for developing the idea and bringing it to life so quickly.
