I was shocked to hear of the disgraceful and malicious damage to seven train carriages at the heritage railway in Pickering at the weekend where windows were smashed and carriages were severely damaged inside. Having visited NYMR and met with the craftsmen who do such fabulous work restoring the engines and rolling stock on a number of occasions, I am very aware of the commitment, pride and dedication of everyone who works and travels on this line. Once the those responsible have been brought to justice and served their sentence, I suggest that community service with the brilliant restoration specialists at NYMR to help repair the damage would be an appropriate and informative further punishment.
