Farmers from the Uplands and Lowlands of Ryedale met with their MP this weekend. Kevin Hollinrake, MP for Thirsk and Malton, visited two farms to discuss the issues facing the agricultural industry in the area. At both meetings several local farmers and representatives from the NFU had the chance to raise questions and ask for help. Mr Hollinrake heard more about the various experiences of those receiving the single farm payment. They also talked about the impact of exiting the EU and reform of direct and indirect support for farmers. Some of the other topics discussed were flooding, auction marts, sheep tagging, the use of glyphosate, broadband and mobile signals, rural crime and road maintenance on the moors. Mr Hollinrake has written to George Eustice, Minister of State at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, about topics raised at both meetings and asking him for help and clarity on future government policies. Mr. Hollinrake will continue to work with farmers in the constituency to support the industry.
