Kevin Hollinrake MP raised the issue currently facing Easingwold School during Education Questions in the Chamber on Monday 19th December. Speaking about his local school, Mr. Hollinrake asked the Secretary of State for Education, Rt. Hon. Justine Greening, to look at the problems being encountered,
“Easingwold School in my constituency, I must declare an interest here Mr. Speaker as two of my children attend this school but so do 1000 other children, has been placed in special measures and of course now will become an academy which I support. The choice of academy has been made but subsequently retracted pending surveys on the school. Clearly the process is flawed or the way this has been handled has been flawed. Would the Secretary of State look at this with urgency to resolve these problems?”
Justine Greening MP replied,
“I am aware of this matter because he has done his role as a fantastic local MP in already raising it with me and it is something we are looking at within the department to see whether we can make sure that the barriers preventing this school from getting a great sponsor that can help improve it, not just for his own children but for all the children there, whether those can be quickly removed.”
Mr. Hollinrake will be attending further meetings early in 2017 to look at what can be done to resolve the issue facing Easingwold School as quickly as possible.
