Kevin Hollinrake MP for Thirsk and Malton has welcomed the new reinsurance scheme, Flood Re, which was launched this week. Floor Re will enable insurers to offer competitive premiums and lower excesses to residents of high flood risk homes.
Although this is good news for householders living in flood risk areas, giving them better access to affordable flood insurance, Mr. Hollinrake is also pushing for better deals for businesses against the potential effects of flooding.
“I am pleased that the Flood Re scheme will be available for constituents in Thirsk and Malton and I hope it will help those who have previously struggled to access affordable flood insurance. I have spoken to, and visited, many distressed people whose homes have been damaged by extreme wet weather and rising water levels.
This scheme only covers residential properties and I have also been campaigning in Parliament and had many meetings with the insurance industry to bring forward a new scheme to help business premises and larger blocks of leasehold properties. At a recent meeting BIBA, the insurance brokers association, disclosed to me that they would be announcing such a scheme this summer. I will continue to press for more detail to make sure that it will prove suitable for many of those affected in the Thirsk & Malton Constituency.”
