A lively debate took place in Filey last night as the audience discussed the forthcoming vote on the country’s membership of the European Union. Kevin Hollinrake, MP for Thirsk and Malton, spoke for the side to remain and Mr. Toby Horton argued for the UK for leave the EU. Many topics were covered during the event including immigration, the fishing industry and sovereignty. Questions and statements came from the floor and the two hours were packed with responses and retorts. The event at the Evron Centre was organised by the local MP, it was the first of three debates being held around the constituency. Speaking after the event Mr. Hollinrake expressed his appreciation to all involved, “I am grateful to Toby Horton for his participation in the debate last night. I really enjoyed the evening and look forward to arguing more points with Mr Horton in the next two events. My thanks also to Councillor John Shackleton, Town Mayor of Filey, for chairing the evening. It was good to see so many constituents and I hope they found the evening interesting. I wanted to hold these debates to give people the chance to hear both sides of the argument and to help provide as much information before they vote. I am always interested in the thoughts of constituents on this matter and have already received much correspondence on the issues concerning them. I hope more residents of Thirsk and Malton join us for the remaining two debates.” The next events will be take place at the Galtres Centre in Easingwold on the 6th May and then at the Steam and Moorland Garden Centre at Pickering on the 30th May. Both will begin at 7pm. Mr Horton, the UKIP candidate in the General Election, will again be joining Mr Hollinrake at The Galtres Centre .
