Thirsk and Malton MP, Kevin Hollinrake, has taken two representatives of Moorsweb Community Broadband to Westminster to meet Ed Vaizey MP, minister at the Department of Culture Media and Sport, with responsibility for broadband roll-out.
The meeting with the Minister gave Bernard Glass (Moorsweb Chairman) and Barry Sunley (Moorsweb Operator) opportunity to explain how this community based wireless broadband service delivers superfast broadband to large areas of the Moors, including Rosedale, Farndale and Bransdale.
Kevin Hollinrake said ‘It was important that the minister understood what has been achieved by wireless broadband providers like Moorsweb in delivering cost-effective high-speed broadband to the hardest-to reach areas in my constituency’.
Kevin was recently the keynote speaker at the Pictfor ‘The Future of Communications’ event. Pictfor is the All-Party Parliamentary Group for the Internet and Communications technology. The Group’s purpose is to further understanding of policy issues affecting the Internet, Communications and Technology sector between parliamentarians, the industry, consumer groups and academia.
Discussions were about Ofcom’s strategic review of the digital communications market and to examine the key obstacles standing in the way of extending superfast broadband coverage beyond 95% of the UK.
