After correspondence with several residents from a village in Hambleton local MP, Kevin Hollinrake, arranged a meeting on site to see what could be done about their lack of superfast broadband. The ongoing issue in Tholthorpe has meant that although the cabinet in the village has been enabled over a dozen properties are still not enabled due to their lines going to a cabinet in a neighbouring village.
Residents told the MP for Thirsk and Malton that Openreach had said they would not re-parent the lines to the enabled cabinet due to engineering constraints. Mr. Hollinrake had tried to help find a wireless solution for the villagers but this had unfortunately not worked out.
On 4th January Mr. Hollinrake met with the householders and a representative from BT Group to discuss the problem further. The residents put forward a few practical solutions regarding the cabling which they felt would reduce the costs. BT said that they would look into the problem again. Also discussed was the idea of a community fibre scheme part funded by BT.
Mr. Hollinrake will continue to engage with BT until a solution has been found.
