The disabilities minister, Penny Mordaunt, told Kevin Hollinrake that she will be launching a consultation in March into how best to ensure young people with learning disabilities find meaningful employment. Mrs Mordaunt said that finding a solutions was one of her top priorites during her first year in office. She explained to Mr Hollinrake, at a meeting he arranged with parents of children with learning disabilities and  the charity autism plus, that she wanted to examine the advantages and disadvantages of introducing either an employer's subsidy or a therapeutic wage, favoured by some of the parents.

Mr Hollinrake stressed that it is vitally important that young people with learning disabilities feel a sense of worth by being included in the workplace and that he would be encouraging parents, charities and young people themselves, to contribute to this consultation, once it has been officially announced.
