Springing into action to clean North Yorkshire's litter

As part of Keep Britain Tidy's campaign, Great British Spring Clean, I took part in a litter pick in Alne over the weekend. The 2022 Great British Spring Clean takes place 25 March – 10 April so there's still plenty of time to get involved.

Along with every other MP, I receive a large amount of correspondence on litter scourging the beautiful countryside here in Thirsk and Malton. As Chair of the Tidy Britain APPG and someone who has campaigned for tougher enforcement regarding highway littering, this is of great importance to me. In addition, the cost to local councils to clean up this rubbish is substantial and could be spent in other areas if those who drop litter had more respect for our countryside. While it's a shame litter picks are necessary, I'm nonetheless pleased to see communities across Thirsk and Malton playing their part.
