Following last week's well-attended public meeting in Helmsley, I have written to Yorkshire Housing, Foundation Housing, North Yorkshire Council and the Deputy Mayor for Policing, Fire and Crime to seek answers to the concerns raised by local residents.
I have asked for clarification on housing allocation policies, the role of local connections in housing decisions, the provision of affordable housing for local people and what action can be taken where tenancies are not being conducted appropriately.
The strength of feeling expressed by residents at the meeting was clear and I believe it is important that the organisations involved provide transparent answers to the community's questions.
I am also working with local partners to arrange a further public meeting, giving residents the opportunity to hear directly from the relevant authorities and raise their concerns.
I will continue to keep residents updated as responses are received.
