A reprieve for Lambert Hospital

Lambert Hospital

I am delighted that NHS Property Services has agreed to suspend the sale of the former Lambert Hospital in Thirsk, pending a review of existing medical services. The decision to allow the local CCG and Hambleton District Council to review the situation and to assess how the building can be kept for community use follows my meeting with Health Minister, Lord O'Shaughnessy and my repeated representations to NHS property services, who own the Chapel Street Site. There were fears that the former hospital, which is in a prime site in Thirsk and next to existing GP services, would be sold for private flats and would be lost to the community. The CCG and local council now have a month to demonstrate that there is a need to keep it for additional medical services. This reprieve is great news and I am delighted. I remain confident that we will find a solution which benefits the whole community.
