The search for the best pub in the Thirsk & Malton constituency has reached its exciting conclusion, with the Providence Inn in Yedingham taking the top spot. The Star at Harome came in a close second, while The Royal in Thirsk took third place.
The competition, launched by Kevin Hollinrake MP, to celebrate and support the vibrant local pub scene, highlighted the vital role these establishments play in the community - as social hubs, employers and cornerstones of village and town life.
Kevin Hollinrake said:
“Local pubs are great British institutions - the beating hearts of our communities and an irreplaceable part of our heritage here in North Yorkshire. Just as many households have struggled with higher energy bills and inflation, so too have pubs, yet they continue to provide jobs, friendship, and support to those who need it most. When pubs fail, consumers, high streets, and working people pay the price.
That’s why I’m proud to celebrate our local pubs and to continue pressing the Labour Government to ease the burdens they face. I’ll continue to back our landlords, staff and regulars ensuring our pubs and breweries don’t just survive, but thrive as community hubs."
Publican Vicky Breheney said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be named the best pub in Thirsk & Malton. The Providence Inn has always been about bringing people together, whether it’s for a quiet pint, a community event, or just a friendly chat at the bar. This recognition means the world to our team and our regulars, who make the pub what it is. Huge thanks to Kevin Hollinrake MP for championing local pubs and to everyone who voted for us. We’ll be raising a glass to you all!”
Kevin has a number of brilliant breweries in his constituency, including Wold Top Brewery and Helmsley Brewery and has always been strong supporter of the pub and beer sector, which supports over 3,000 local jobs in Thirsk & Malton. More broadly, pubs contributed over £34.4 billion to the UK economy in 2024, paying more than £17.4 billion in tax, despite operating on tight margins.
The Best Pub Competition has shown the strength and spirit of our local pub scene. Kevin looks forward to raising a glass to the Providence Inn and to all the fantastic pubs that make Thirsk and Malton such a welcoming and special place to live.
