Despite a longstanding campaign to connect twelve remaining properties in Tholthorpe to superfast broadband, I was astounded to hear from residents today that it is being connected to three brand new bungalows whilst they have been told they cannot have it.
The dozen houses in Tholthorpe have their telephone lines linked to the Cabinet in Tollerton rather than the Superfast enabled one in the village which is only yards from their properties. Although the remaining residents have been able to access the service for a couple of years, the dozen connected to the slower network were told it was not possible for them to have superfast broadband.
I have met residents and taken the matter up with Openreach many times. I can therefore understand and share their fury when they discovered Openreach putting in new cabling from the village Cabinet to the new bungalows bringing the new cables along the front of their houses.
I have written to Openreach CEO, Clive Selley, to ask why this work could not have incorporated the reparenting of their lines and why new properties further out of the village than theirs will now receive the service they should all be able to have. I have asked to meet him as soon as possible so that this issue can be resolved once and for all.
