The Government is banning hydraulic fracturing operations from taking place from new or existing wells that are drilled at the surface in all specified protected areas.  This will affect all current and future applications in the constituency of Thirsk and Malton.

There will be a new licensing condition in all new Petroleum Exploration and Development Licences which will not allow fracking at the surface of new or existing wells in specified protected areas. Furthermore there will be a policy statement which will make clear that they are not minded to approve any existing application for surface fracking in specific protected areas.

Kevin Hollinrake MP said:"I have had a number of meetings with the Minister responsible for fracking, and I am delighted that the Government has made clear its position that there will be no surface fracking in the constituency or elsewhere."
