I’m pleased to share that I’ve sent a joint letter with Tom Gordon MP and Sir Alec Shelbrooke MP to Minister Lilian Greenwood, pressing for the long-overdue dualling of the A64 between Hopgrove Junction and Barton-le-Willows. This vital project will improve safety, reduce congestion, and unlock economic growth for York and North Yorkshire communities. I’m working proactively with Mayor David Skaith to ensure this gets over the line.
Letter attached and reads:
As representatives of York and North Yorkshire, we reaffirm our shared commitment to unlocking the full economic potential of York and North Yorkshire through vital infrastructure investment - most urgently, the long-overdue dualling of the A64 between Hopgrove Junction and Barton-le-Willows.
This stretch of road is a key artery for our region, linking communities from Scarborough to York and beyond. Yet for too long, it has been a source of daily congestion, safety concerns and lost economic opportunity. Residents face long and unpredictable journey times; businesses struggle with disrupted supply chains and workforce mobility; and visitors are too often deterred by traffic delays and poor connectivity.
The dualling of this route is not just a matter of convenience, it is a transformational project that is shovel-ready and capable of delivering tangible results: improved safety, faster travel, new investment, job creation and a stronger, more connected local economy.
Under the new devolution deal and with renewed regional leadership, we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to drive real change. As leaders representing the region who are committed to economic growth, we believe it is time for all tiers of government to come together and get this done.
We therefore jointly pledge to support the campaign for the dualling of the A64 and will continue to work collaboratively, across political lines, to champion this critical upgrade.
Kind regards,
Kevin Hollinrake MP Sir Alec Shelbrooke MP Tom Gordon MP
