I'm proud to join a cross-party group of MPs and Peers in calling on the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care to ensure the upcoming National Cancer Plan reflects key recommendations from The White Rose Cancer Report.
In a letter to the Health Secretary, we highlight the urgent need to address regional health inequalities – particularly those affecting communities across Yorkshire. The White Rose Cancer Report, backed by Yorkshire Cancer Research, sets out practical, evidence-based proposals to improve cancer outcomes and save lives.
The letter urges the Government to:
- Automatically enrol patients into stop smoking support at key NHS touchpoints.
- Sustain and expand innovation in cancer screening programmes.
- Embed multi-modal prehabilitation and rehabilitation into NHS cancer care.
- Ensure fair access to health research across all regions.
This is a vital step forward in tackling cancer here in North Yorkshire. I’ve always been a strong supporter of Yorkshire Cancer Research and their lifesaving work. Together, we can make a real difference.
