I joined the Ryebeck Court team in Pickering to tour the development and discuss the value of specialist housing for older people. Located on Eastgate, Ryebeck Court provides the over 60s with 41 low-maintenance, energy efficient retirement apartments designed to support older people and help them to live their later life to the fullest. Its location also means homeowners have excellent access to local shops and amenities in the area.
On-site support is provided by the House Manager, Sarah Fox, who is there to manage the development and support the residents.
It was a pleasure to talk to the homeowners at Ryebeck Court and we covered a wide range of topics, including access to local transport and health services. It was also great to meet the McCarthy Stone team and homeowners. Retirement communities like this play a critical role in meeting the unmet need for better housing in later life and also help to free up larger properties in the area for younger people to move into. Residents raised some legitimate concerns with me about healthcare, transport and flooding which I have raised directly with NYCC and the UK Government on their behalf.
