DTA

A team of engineering apprentices met with Kevin Hollinrake MP this week to tell him about their entry in the Brathay Apprentice Challenge. The members of the NYEngApps Brathay Apprentice Challenge Team all undertake training at Derwent Training Association in Malton.

The Brathay Apprentice Challenge is the search for the apprentice team of the year, supported by the National Apprenticeship Service.

Derwent Training Association provide apprentices with engineering training in partnership with employers from the York, Ryedale and Yorkshire Coast areas. On Tuesday 4th April Mr. Hollinrake visited DTA. He was given a tour of the workshop and the team showed him their plans. As part of the challenge apprentices have to undertake a community project to benefit young people in their local area. The NYEngApps team decided to build a cricket net for Westow Cricket Club.  Mr. Hollinrake was interested to see how their work was progressing,

“It was great to see the enthusiasm of the apprentices. I wish the team well. Engineering and manufacturing is a thriving sector in the constituency with many internationally respected companies trading across the world from their bases here in Thirsk and Malton. Apprenticeships are important for the continued success and growth in this area and a great pathway for young people to begin their careers.”
