I was proud to welcome Robbie Moore, Shadow Farming Minister, to Bulmer, North Yorkshire, where we met with our hardworking farming community to confront the escalating crisis inflicted by Labour’s relentless policies. The anger, frustration, and disbelief among our farmers were palpable—and rightly so—as they face a barrage of attacks on their livelihoods: slashed delinked payments, halted SFI and capital grants, hikes in Employers’ NI and minimum wage, new taxes on double cab pickups and fertilisers, and the devastating #FamilyFarmTax. These measures aren’t just numbers on a spreadsheet—they’re choking cashflows and threatening UK food production right now.
As MP for Thirsk and Malton, I’ve fought tirelessly for our farmers, from challenging Labour’s £500,000 tax bombshell on typical 350-acre family farms—12 years of profit wiped out—to rallying over 200 farmers and residents at Thirsk Auction Mart in January to oppose this ruinous policy. Since the Budget, I’ve held surgeries across Filey and beyond, amplifying the voices of farmers who are anything but millionaires yet face losing everything. Robbie’s pledge to fight tooth and nail as Shadow Farming Minister echoes my own commitment. Together, we’re demanding Labour listens and reverses course—our rural communities and food security depend on it.
