I'm calling on constituents to fight to protect local Post Office services following Labour’s announcement of a national review which could put branches across the country at risk.
The Government’s Green Paper on the future of the Post Office system raises the possibility of removing key protections, including:
- The rule that Post Office services must be within three miles of residents.
- The minimum requirement to maintain 11,500 branches.
- Protections for part-time, mobile, and outreach branches – which are a lifeline for rural areas.
Such changes would hit the elderly, vulnerable residents, small businesses and rural communities like ours the hardest – forcing people to travel further for essential services like banking and postage.
I've always worked hard to ensure postal provisions remain in the constituency, including in Helmsley and will to continue pressing for fair access to services.
