New figures released this week show the number of people in the Thirsk and Malton constituency relying Jobseeker’s Allowance or Universal Credit while out of work is has fallen by 622 since 2010 – a 55% drop.

More people are in work across Yorkshire and Humber since the last Labour Government and there is a record level of employment across the UK as a whole – with over 2.2 million more people enjoying the security of a job than in 2010.

The figures also show that average pay is up 2.4 per cent while inflation is close to flat. This means working people across Thirsk and Malton are seeing their wages grow and the Government’s plan for a higher-employment and higher-wage economy is working.

Kevin Hollinrake MP said:

‘Today’s figures are good news for families in Thirsk and Malton. Employment nationally is at a record high and wages continuing to grow above inflation. With the introduction of the National Living Wage in 2016 it shows how committed the Government is to helping secure a better economic future for people. We have some great businesses in the constituency and with more investment in transport and broadband our county has to flourish. We have so much skill and quality produce to offer the UK and abroad. We need residents in jobs, being productive and being rewarded for their hard work.”
