Following several meetings with the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, Sajid Javid MP, I am delighted that North Yorkshire is to receive an extra £3.2 million over the next two years. Some of this will come from the rural services grant to be spent on meeting the needs of vulnerable people and support services in rural areas and the rest will be spent on adult social care across the county. I welcome this increase as I have been making the case to the Secretary of State, on behalf of North Yorkshire, for more cash as budgets are currently very tightly squeezed. This now means it can deliver high quality services whilst protecting council tax payers from excessive increases in their bills.
