The main topics for discussion at the Yorkshire & Humber Youth Parliament meeting today were mental health and improving public transport. I was hugely impressed by the calibre of debate and the ideas which emerged from the meeting today, when I went to support the Deputy Member for North Yorkshire, Dylan Kennedy. Dylan has been campaigning to increase the number of buses and trains available, reduce the cost of tickets and provide disability training for all drivers since he was elected eighteen months ago. Concerns about mental health issues often caused by the use of social media leading to personal confidence issues and, in extreme cases, eating disorders were also raised and some original suggestions were put forward to deal with them. It is terrific that young people have an opportunity to air their views and make their needs known to a wider audience and I fully support the youth Parliament. I very much hope that many of them use this experience to become local councillors or MPs later in life.
