Claire Perry Kit Malthouse Kevin Hollinrake MP

Today I had a very good meeting with Planning Minister, Kit Malthouse and Energy Minister, Claire Perry and a number of officials to discuss any proposed weakening of planning rules with regards to shale gas extraction. I made a very clear case for guidelines and restrictions on development and the importance of ensuring that we keep decision-making at a local level. I do believe that we will secure the appropriate controls on development to protect the environment and the landscape. If this is not the case, as I have said many times ,I will oppose it.

I will continue to press the point at every opportunity.

The consultation is open until October 25th.  I would encourage anyone who wants to contribute to do so as soon as possible. https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/permitted-development-for-shale-gas-exploration
