Interim measures to make Rillington on the A64 safer

Today I met with Colin Wicks who has been campaigning for many years for a bypass around Rillington on the A64 along with Ryedale Councillors Janet Sanderson and Brian Maud. There have been numerous accidents at this section of the A64 over the past few years, including a fatality within the last six months. There has also been serious damage to homes and other buildings when vehicles come off the road. It is very worrying for local people. I agree that a new bypass around Rillington is the answer but, realistically, it won’t be for many years, possibly not until 2030 or later. Therefore, I am arranging to meet Highways England, County and Parish councillors and local residents to see what measures can be put in place in the meantime. This could include better signage and more visible traffic lights to reduce the possibility of accidents and to help make local residents feel safer.
