Kevin Hollinrake, MP for Thirsk and Malton, joined in celebrations at the Great British High Street Award ceremony on Monday 30th November. Helmsley was up against 43 other streets from market towns around the country but made it into the three finalists with Chipping Norton and Colne. Thanks to the public vote the result is positive praise for the traders and businesses of Helmsley.

The competition is run by the Department for Communities and Local Government. For months traders and local residents in Helmsley have been working to raise awareness of their bid. Mr. Hollinrake was delighted by the result,

“I know how hard people have worked to achieve this and how much it means to the townsfolk. It is a real honour for those involved to be proud of and I am so pleased their efforts have been recognised. Helmsley is a fabulous North Yorkshire town and it epitomises the spirit of the area I represent in its beauty, innovation and community. It is like an early Christmas present to residents and I know everyone in the constituency will be happy for all involved”

The award was given out at Admiralty House in Whitehall in London. The winners of the various categories receive certificates and prize money.
