The future of Helmsley Post Office will be discussed at a public meeting this week. The meeting in the Town Hall has been called by Kevin Hollinrake, MP for Thirsk and Malton.  It has been arranged in response to concerns expressed by local residents and businesses to proposals to relocate the Post Office to within the Costcutter store.

Many are worried about the possible impact on services and the event on Friday evening will give the chance for those involved to discuss the plans. Representatives from both the Post Office and Helmsley in Business will join the MP to speak about the matter. Among the objections to the proposals is the question of access. Mr Hollinrake hopes that this meeting will allow all constituents potentially affected to get a clear picture of what is proposed and to have their say on the issue.

“Helmsley Post Office is used by people from both the town and many surrounding rural villages. It provides important services for the all the community. There are obvious concerns from those in local commerce as well as regular users who may not just use it for their mail but also various financial transactions. I hope this meeting proves to be useful to all and helps bring about a satisfactory solution.”

The Public Meeting will take place on Friday January 16th at 6pm in Helmsley Town Hall.
