Dementia Advice Clinics offer an invaluable service

Alzheimer’s Society

I have written to local doctors surgeries to urge them to make maximum use of Dementia Advice Clinics run by Alzheimer’s Society. The service offers appropriate and timely support, guidance and advice to people affected by dementia or worried about their memory.

The support that these clinics offer can make a huge difference not only to people living with dementia, but also to their friends and family. As more and more people develop the condition it is vital that we create a community where everyone affected by dementia is given the help they need to live well and independently for as long as possible. Too often those affected by dementia feel like they don’t know where to turn for advice or local support to help manage their condition. This, in turn, means people try to cope on their own until they reach a crisis point. It is my hope that this service will help people access the support they need as early as possible.

Gill Cree, Services Manager from the Alzheimers Society said “We are grateful to Mr Hollinrake for raising awareness of our clinics. We are keen to let everyone who is supporting someone living with dementia know that we are here for them to offer advice and information right through their dementia journey, from the point of diagnosis onwards.

“Alzheimer’s Society currently provides two free Dementia Advice clinics at GP surgeries in Easingwold and Filey. These clinics are an opportunity to discuss concerns and find out more information about local support in your area.“

Anyone who has concerns about your memory or has received a diagnosis of dementia can get more information and book an appointment by calling 01347 821557 for Millfield and 01723 515881for Filey.

Over 67,000 people are estimated to have dementia in Yorkshire and the Humber with more than 9,000 in North Yorkshire.
