Campaign: No Community Should Miss Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day is one of the most important moments in our national calendar, when communities come together to honour the service and sacrifice of our Armed Forces, past and present.

I am proud to have joined James Cartlidge MP and 97 co-signatories in writing to the Prime Minister to call for greater support for local authorities and community organisations in delivering Remembrance Day parades. Specifically, we are urging the government to help councils waive road closure fees and assist with the associated costs of safely organising these events.

Across the country, volunteers and local groups work tirelessly each year to ensure that these commemorations take place with the dignity and respect they deserve. However, rising costs and administrative burdens risk placing unnecessary strain on those efforts.

No community should be prevented from marking Remembrance Day due to financial barriers. These events are not optional extras, they are a fundamental expression of our shared gratitude and national identity.

We must ensure that every town and village that wishes to hold a parade is able to do so without undue financial pressure. Supporting these commemorations is a responsibility we all share.

Read the full letter attached and join us in backing this important call.
