Today over 200 farmers, councillors, and local residents gathered at Thirsk Auction Mart to voice their concerns about the devastating impact of Labour’s proposed Family Farm Tax. The strong turnout highlighted how critical this issue is to our rural communities and the agricultural sector.
The message from farmers and residents was clear: Labour’s Family Farm Tax would cripple the farming industry, harm our rural communities, and threaten food security. Family farms are the backbone of our countryside, built on generations of hard work and stewardship. This tax would undo decades of progress.
The event, organised by Phil and Clare Wise and chaired by Chris Brown, brought together key voices from across the community for an important discussion. While the debate was robust, it was disappointing that no local Labour MPs accepted the invitation to engage directly with farmers. Credit must be given to Cllr White for stepping up to answer the tough questions.
The Conservatives are united in opposing this tax, and Kemi Badenoch has been clear: if we are in government, we will reverse it. I will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with our farmers to protect their livelihoods and secure the future of our rural communities.
The Conservatives remain committed to safeguarding the interests of farmers and ensuring policies that bolster food security and rural prosperity.
