Save our local best pub competition launches

Here I'm launching my competition for the best pub in the Thirsk and Malton constituency as part of my wider campaign to 'Save our Local'. Pubs are facing a raft of challenges and we must support them more than ever as we move into the summer months.

As former small business owner, Minister of State for Business – where I was responsible for the wellbeing of our pubs – and most importantly as someone who enjoys a pint down the local, I’m proud to launch the best Thirsk & Malton pub competition.

In Thirsk and Malton, the beer and pub sector directly supports over 3,000 jobs, with close to a third of those being taken up by 16-24 year olds. For many of these younger employees, these might well be their first jobs and play a crucial role in helping them begin their journey into the job market. As we begin our campaign to stand up for our local pubs, I’ll be reaching out to constituents to ask them to vote on their favourite local pub, to help us highlight those wonderful locals that play a crucial role in making this unbelievable constituency what it is.

The competition will run from today until Monday 2nd June, with a special recognition for the winner and runner up.
