I had a constructive meeting with the Secretary of State for Education, Gavin Williamson and my parliamentary colleague, Julian Sturdy (York Outer) about the safeguarding concerns at Ampleforth College. We stressed that the school understand the need to put an immediate action plan in place to deal with the issues raised in the most recent Ofsted report and that they would also need to engage directly with the Department of Education. Once this is done I would expect another Ofsted inspection in the New Year and I see no reason why the restrictions should not then be lifted.
I have since spoken to the Head Teacher, Robin Dyer, to update him and he expressed his gratitude for our interventions. He will now discuss the matter further with the school governors.
