I’m pleased to hear that there’s been another round of Rural Development Programme funding for farmers. For the first time there will be specific funding available to invest in new infrastructure, such as new buildings and machinery as well as broadband projects. A total of £45 million has been set aside to help rural business grow and invest in new equipment, including those engaged in tourism and food production, allowing them to expand and diversify and invest in new technologies. There’s a further £120 million for projects to improve farm productivity, to help farmers and landowners manage their land more effectively and finally £30million to improve rural broadband. I think this is really good news as so many businesses in my constituency are based in the countryside and this illustrates the government’s commitment to providing the support they need to create a strong and prosperous rural economy.
