Kevin Hollinrake MP has welcomed today’s Queen Speech which aims to deliver security for hard working people, increase opportunities for the disadvantaged and strengthen our national security.
Kevin said ‘there’s plenty in it for those of us lucky enough to live in Thirsk and Malton. The Digital Economy Bill will provide new obligations on broadband providers so that everyone, however remote their home or business, has access to high speed internet connection. The Neighbourhood Planning and Infrastructure Bill will reform planning and give our local communities more power and control over what goes on in their own areas. Alongside this the Local Growth and Jobs Bill will give local authorities the right to keep and spend the money they raise though business rates so that they can attract more business and investment to North Yorkshire’.
In addition there are bills to transform the education system, prisons and courts as well as measures to protect the vulnerable from extremism propaganda, to continue to reform police procedures and to fight international corruption.
