Kevin Hollinrake, MP for Thirsk and Malton, welcomed further assurances from the minister responsible for shale gas extraction that National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (ANOB) will be protected from surface activities related to fracking.
Andrea Leadsom, Minister of State at the Department of Energy and Climate Change said, at a packed meeting in the House of Commons, ‘We will be making clear, as soon as possible, how we will set about banning surface drilling for fracking in National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beaut
Kevin Hollinrake, who has recently been on a fact finding mission to Pennsylvania (USA), has told residents in his constituency concerned about fracking, that he will be following developments closely to ensure that protected areas in Ryedale are excluded from surface drilling.
